This is such an intense piece by schubert! And it's performed VERY well here! It's favorited!

i don't think it's importance lies in the characters being male its about the natural world and the industrialised about the real and the unreal and of course bout a parent and a child but if they r male or not...
schuberts would i suppose like this interpretation more than most others cause she is not like Fischer-Diskau making it into a piece of 2Unterhaltungsmusik" which schubert came over in his own sarcastic manner...

Wow!
Gänsehautfaktor!!!!!
Eine der besten Schubert-Lieder Interpretationen die ich je gesehen habe!!!!!!

I think von Otter sings it most ... I don't want to say "beautifully" because it's not about it at all... she sings it.... best.

Somehow this works better when a male sings it. I am not trying to be sexist in anyway, but somehow this song needs a rumbling, deep voice. I think that first of all the story is about a father and a son. Fischer-Dieskau is a phenomenal singer for this particular piece. However, Anne Sofie is a marvelous singer! She has lots of power and her facial expressions are magnificent! However I believe this is more of a guy piece, but of course this is coming from a purist... :)

The orchestration is tremendous - I only knew Schubert's piano accompaniment before. And von Otter's performance is exquisite. Her facial expressions are perfect expressions of the characters of the lied.

I agree, for some reason I found myself afraid when I heard this, but it's still beautiful piece.

Avesome power and beauty rolled into one. God bless you Anne Sofie. And thank you for the joy you bring into peoples' heart just listening to your singing.

I think this works really well because the Erlkonig is almost effeminate, and the little boy should be feminine as well. However I think that Fischer-Deschua does a better narrator/father. But I have to say her Erlkonig interpertation give me nightmares.

Erfrischend, hier mal ein Video zu finden, in dem Schubert wirklich gesungen wird; und nicht vergewaltigt von jemandem, der offensichtlich keinen Plan hat, was er von sich gibt und demnach irgendwie vor sich hin säuselt.

a nice change over the classic baritone.
